    Confidential Client Search - Family enterprise seeks a CFO to develop and lead a multi-disciplinary finance team and to be a business partner for a diverse set of companies across varying industries, implementing and executing the goals and strategies set forth by the family and its advisors.  Reporting to the CEO and COO, and working closely with key family stakeholders, this role will provide overall direction of the financial operations of the family of companies, as well as establishing and maintaining relationships with lending institutions, investment advisors, insurance providers, and the financial community at large.  Industry and operational segments include the following: construction and related equipment, owner-managed real estate, private aircraft, private foundation and a diverse investment portfolio.  This opportunity is in Rochester, NY.

    Responsibilities

    Scope of Responsibilities:

     

    1. Provide direction and oversight of the following enterprise-wide activities:
    • Financial Planning & Analysis – implement and execute FP&A strategy that aligns with the reporting and strategic needs of key stakeholders.  Includes both long-term analysis and current reporting against initiatives and results.
    • Treasury Management – implement and execute an overall treasury management operation, leveraging the entire enterprise and managing diverse needs at both the operational level as well as the ownership level.
    • Compliance – implement and execute procedures ensuring efficient and effective compliance oversight, including coordination of income tax reporting and document management.
    • Corporate Finance – working with both ownership and operational teams, ensure that the enterprises financing vehicles are managed appropriately, including both internal and external leverage maximizing efficient capital allocation and structure.
    • Family Planning – working with the family and its core team of advisors, provide analysis and comment on strategic needs and implementation of execution strategies.

     

    1. Provide direction and oversight of the following operational-level activities:
    • Budgeting – work with operational finance teams in developing consistent and streamlined budgeting procedures, including:  multi-period forecasting, comparison to actual and coordination of enterprise-wide reporting.
    • Accounting policies and procedures – work with operational finance teams to ensure that policies and procedures are designed appropriately, implemented and operating as intended to maintain proper records and accurate accounting.
    •  Reporting – develop and manage an integrated reporting framework to ensure timely intra-period reporting and year-end financial statement requirements of operational units.

    • Develop standard work that provides visibility, insight, and forward looking decision support by leveraging / creating systems expertise in ERP’s (various).
    • Enterprise consolidation disciplines and reporting, including methods for data standardization and business intelligence tools.
    • Drive accountability of operational reporting and strategic projects through design and implementation of appropriate expectation setting and performance review.
    • Drive standardization of financial goals, specific points of accountability, reporting design and cadence across units.

    Qualifications

    Job Requirements:

    • An undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting is required; an MBA, JD or CPA is strongly desired.
    • An ideal candidate will possess excellent academic credentials and a strong aptitude in financial analysis.
    • Broad knowledge of all aspects of corporate reporting, accounting, taxation, and financial management required.  Experience in one or more of the industries described is desired.
    • He/she should have a minimum of 10+ years of progressively responsible business experience.
    • Strong knowledge of financial modeling, analysis, and experience with business reporting tools.  Working across a diverse platform of reporting software’s, including those industry-specific as well as enterprise consolidation packages.1

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    The CFO is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and efficiency of the enterprise-wide finance department.  Directly supervises multiple employees, providing oversight to operational unit financial executives.  The CFO carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Duties include recruiting, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Work Environment:

    The work environment is that of a typical executive office area.  The position is primarily sedentary.  There is occasionally lifting and/or carrying up to 25lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.  While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear; use hands to finger and handle items. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
